Introduction
The department comprises of three subjects Agadtantra i.e., Toxicology, Vyavhar Ayurved i.e., Forensic Medicine & Vidhivaidyak i.e., Medical Jurisprudence. Agadtantra deals with detail study of poisons and their management, whereas Vyavhar Ayurved & Vidhivaidyak deals with medical aspect of law & legal aspect of medicine respectively. Department of Agadtantra, Vyavahar Ayurved Evam Vidhivaidyak (Toxicology, Forensic Medicine, and medical jurisprudence) facilitates the IInd and IIIrd year undergraduate B.A.M.S. students and Postgraduate students with educational inputs related to the subject with lectures, e lectures, practical and educational visits. The Department has Academic section and Museum which are spread over a spacious area. Department has full-fledged museum displaying specimens, charts and models showcasing faces of medical jurisprudence, forensic medicine and toxicology as per MSR.
Departmental Highlights
- Agadtantra, Vyavhar Ayurved Evam Vidhivaidyak (Toxicology, Forensic Medicine, and medical jurisprudence) is one of the eight branches of Ashtang Ayurveda.
- It provides educational inputs to the second and third-year undergraduate B.A.M.S. students as well as postgraduate (M.D. Agadtantra) students – ongoing 05 students, completed 04 (as in 2023).
- It provides knowledge regarding the toxic effects of poisonous drugs and their management.
- The department is well equipped with different specimens (poisonous drugs – 100 and weapons - 100), 60 models, 36 charts, and 58 books used to enhance subject knowledge among the students
- Postgraduate Student Activities - The department arranges educational visits like Post-mortem visit, Court visit, Snake park, Forensic Science Laboratory visits for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- The department also trains the post graduate students to teach toxicology and medical jurisprudence in academia by conducting various departmental seminars.
- Also, it provides knowledge about cumulative toxicity, incompatible diet, cosmetic toxicity, food poisoning and their management as per ayurveda as well as modern view.
- The postgraduate students carry out quality research which is reflected in their dissertation work.
